Saúl Castro was born in Oaxaca City in 1967. At a very young age, he began to draw characters from books and from his imagination. He has never lost that child-like innocence and the ability to absorb and interpret his surroundings in unique ways. His painting style has evolved over time into a mixture of figurative images and abstract backgrounds with splashes of color. He has worked in a variety of mediums, but has always adhered to traditional recipes of mixing materials including tree resins, rabbit skin glue, egg tempera and encaustic (beeswax).
Saúl’s deep roots to the land ands its fruits give him a strong foundation on which his artwork can grow. Oaxaca’s markets, processions and traditional dances are of great inspiration as are his two blossoming sons.
